42. . EDGE. Boston College. Harold Landry. 9. player

Starting with Arik Armstead in 2015, and followed by DeForest Buckner in 2016 and Solomon Thomas last year, the San Francisco 49ers have taken a defensive lineman with their first pick in three consecutive drafts. While the 49ers have piled up some serious talent up front, they lack impact players on the edge.

The 49ers are loaded with interior defensive linemen who can make an impact, but they need to find a big-time player or two who can attack the quarterback from the outside. With the ninth overall pick of this 2018 NFL mock draft, the 49ers find themselves an edge rusher who can immediately come in and make an impact.

Harold Landry is a long and athletic player who has a ton of natural upside at the next level. He gets a quick and explosive jump off of the snap, immediately gaining an advantage over the opposing offensive lineman.

In college, Landry showed a balanced skill set and a variety of pass rushing moves. He has the ability to put pressure on the quarterback as both a standup rusher and with his hand in the ground. Pass rushing is where Landry will make his money, but he has some ability as a run defender as well.

Simply put, the 49ers need a guy who can attack the quarterback from the edge. Landry is an exciting defensive talent who could come in and fill an immediate position and offer serious long-term upside.
