New York Jets: Final 7-Round 2018 mock draft
There’s a lot of talk now that the Jets are going to take Baker Mayfield at No. 3. In fact, for the first time in a long time there’s almost a unanimous voice on mock drafts for the Jets. Some may believe that’s a smokescreen.
Whether it is or not doesn’t matter. The Browns will do the unexpected and take Saquon Barkley at No. 1, and the Giants will make a trade with the Bills, because the Bills want Mayfield. So, to pass by the Jets, they make the trade up to No. 2 with the Giants.
So, instead of getting someone who might be second or third on their board, the Jets will get the best quarterback in the draft (for once). The Jets can’t make a mistake on this one. Sam Darnold is already ready to be a pro quarterback. He goes through his reads, throws with anticipation and good placement, and has the arm talent to make most — if not all — NFL throws.
There’s one major issue. He lost 13 fumbles in his two seasons under center with the Trojans. That is something he will need to fix, but we’ve seen guys with fumbling issues in the NFL (ie. Tiki Barber) fix that issue. So, if he’s available, there’s really no option.
