Arizona Cardinals: Black alternate jersey
Up first in our uniform examination is the Arizona Cardinals. The team had a basic look for years, but decided in 2005 that they needed an overhaul. The sudden desire to fix their image was tied directly into them unveiling their new state of the art stadium.

Originally called Cardinals Stadium, the $455 million stadium was renamed University of Phoenix Stadium and gave the team a sense of belonging. That was understandable as they had been borrowing Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe since they moved from St. Louis following the 1987 NFL Season.
Getting a new uniform was a good idea, but they could have executed much better. The Cardinals fell victim the same mistake other teams had made in that time frame which included going overboard with the designs. Instead of sticking to simplicity, they put stripes on the shoulders of the white jerseys and stripes down the sides of the legs. The red jersey itself doesn’t look as bad, but typically road-worn white is gaudy.
Choosing the top option for the Cards is easy though. They look the best when wearing their alternate black jersey with the white pants. The black stripe down the side of the white pants looks cleaner than the red and the different color jersey just adds a new element to the team.
Of course, the Cardinals should follow the lead of the Jags and re-brand the whole look, but making their alternate a primary option could be a good bridge uniform.
