RB, Doug Martin

Running back Doug Martin came into the NFL as a first-round pick for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012. In his rookie year, he ran for 1,454 yards, which ranked fifth in the category.

After running through the competition in 2012, injuries and most recently a suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy hurt his consistency. Through the ups and downs, Martin managed to eclipse 1,400 yards in two out of six seasons with the Buccaneers.

When the seventh-year veteran plays a full season, he’s productive as a pass-catcher and ball-carrier in the backfield. In Oakland, Martin wouldn’t have to endure the constant hits as a lead tailback with Marshawn Lynch in the feature role.

Before we can talk about the 2018 campaign, Martin must win the primary backup role with DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard looking to impress the new coaching staff. If the 29-year-old doesn’t look good in workouts and practices, the team could very easily roll with the pair of third-year running backs.

At 29 years old, Martin’s time as the No. 1 tailback has likely passed him. Failure to make the 53-man roster could send him into obscurity.
