Have you noticed a recent trend in the league? A team deals a player to another team, he winds up staying for one season and then either opts for free agency or winds up getting dealt to another club. Such was the case with wide receiver Sammy Watkins. The Los Angeles Rams orchestrated a deal to obtain the former Buffalo Bills’ speedster last offseason. He played one season with Sean McVay’s team and let the club with eight touchdown receptions. But he wound up signing with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason for big bucks.

In the case of Brandin Cooks, another former first-round pick, it was slightly different. In March of 2017, the New Orleans Saints sent the electrifying talent to New England. He lasted one season with the Patriots and this offseason was dealt to the Los Angeles Rams. Have you got all that? What Cooks does is fill the role of Watkins, giving quarterback Jared Goff a deep threat that can help make life easier for the rest of the passing game.

In four NFL seasons, the former Oregon State standout has totaled 280 receptions for 3,943 yards and 27 touchdowns. Cooks has totaled 1,000-plus receiving yards each of the past three years. He played all 16 games for Bill Belichick’s team in 2017, totaling 65 catches, seven scores while averaging a hefty 16.6 yards per grab. He was also pivotal in the playoffs for the Pats. Unfortunately, his afternoon in Super Bowl LII came to an early end after suffering a concussion early in the game. Now he hopes to make a big impact for his third team in as many seasons.
