Chicago Bears wide receiver Kevin White met with the media after OTAs. He displayed an edge in him not seen and that bodes well for him and the team.

To say that things haven’t worked out yet for Chicago Bears wide receiver Kevin White is a severe understatement. Since the team drafted him with the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, he’s played in just five games. He missed the entire 2015 season with a leg injury. In 2016, he played in four games before fracturing his tibia and missing the rest of the season. In 2017, he fractured his shoulder blade in Week 1 and missed the rest of the season.

Because of these injuries, many Bears fans have salted on White. Five games missed in three seasons does that. After that, many won’t believe in him until he shows they should.

After Offseason Training Activities on Wednesday, White met with the media. He showed that he knows what the narrative is on him. Here is what Chicago Sun-Times writer Adam L. Jahns described what happened:

More from NFL Spin Zone

"White wasn’t rude or overtly dismissive, but he was salty. He answered all the questions with an attitude that was hard to miss. It might not have been a good look, but it’s one that understandably fits a first-round pick who fielded questions about being labeled a bust at this time last year."

I agree with Jahns. White must have so much distaste (aka rage) in his mouth. He knows what he could do, and wants badly to show it to everyone else. He also knows that the Bears are prepared to move on. They picked up plenty of receivers through free agency and the draft, so the first-round pick understands he needs to fight just to make the roster.

When reporters asked him about whether the Bears still believe in him, he said he didn’t know. Also, he said it didn’t bother him, that he believes in himself.

I like this edgier White. He’s fighting for his football life. This is how he should act. It’s him versus the world. He wants to show why the Bears made him a high draft pick. If he succeeds, not only does he resurrect his career but also makes the Bears offense more dangerous. The offense is moving along as if White isn’t in the plans. If he is, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has another dangerous target and this could be an impressive offense.

Next: Do the Bears have a great linebacker duo on their roster?

We won’t know yet what happens with White. First, he needs to make the team. That isn’t a decided issue yet. Even if he makes the team, he needs to stay healthy for an entire season. Only then will he change the perception people have of him. In the meantime, he looks like he’s not rolling over.
