Not many people understand that you can get better by cutting a star wide receiver like Tony Romo, who thinks the Dallas Cowboys will be fine at the position

The biggest storyline for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason has been what they’re going to do about their wide receiver position. There’s been panic since they cut veteran Dez Bryant and they didn’t add any big names to fill his void.

Instead, Dallas added Allen Hurns — by far the most proven addition — and Deonte Thompson in free agency. In the draft they brought in Michael Gallup in the third-round out of Colorado State and Cedrick Wilson in the sixth from Boise State.

The prevailing feeling after these moves is that they don’t have enough. Former quarterback, turned CBS analyst Tony Romo isn’t so sure that’s true.

When asked about the team not having a featured wide out, he had some interesting words.

"“You don’t know that they don’t have one. There’s always someone that can come up. For me, it was Miles Austin after T.O. left, and it was the same discussion then. At the end of the day, if you put the ball in small windows and you’re aggressively putting the ball where you want, there’s going to be windows.” Romo said about the team via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk who credits Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News and NFL Total Access."

Easily the most relevant thing to this topic Romo brings up is the Terrell Owens to Miles Austin move the team made back in 2009. The team cut T.O. and much like this offseason the worry was that no one could step up, because no one on the roster had before.

That included Austin who was fresh off a 13-reception season — his best as a pro. In his fourth-year with Dallas, he blew up without Owens in the way. Austin finished with 81 receptions for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Not only was he fantastic, but the team as a whole seemed better without the distractions T.O. brought to the table. Dallas could see a similar change in morale, but the question is whether or not there will be a guy to step up, and the franchise yardage leader thinks someone could.

Romo also said that the more starting quarterback Dak Prescott works with his receivers, the bigger the windows to fit the ball into become and the more success he and his teammates will have.

The good news is Prescott and his receivers are already putting in that work as they’ve been practicing together at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.

Maybe Prescott will find his own version of Miles Austin, or maybe the Boys will simply be a committee wide receiver group. Whatever happens, Romo isn’t ready to write off their passing game just yet.
