In a recent interview, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky called on fans to be as intense for their team as he is.

After an offseason of change for the Chicago Bears, hope is riding high. Yes, it’s early, but the positivity around Halas Hall is as high as it’s been in the past two decades. The same positivity runs through the Bears fandom.

Many fans have visions of the Bears in the playoffs this season. Again, it’s early, but those thoughts haven’t existed, even this early, for the Bears in a long time. New coaches and new players, along with returning key personnel, raise those hopes.

One of the main focus of the rebuilding was putting second-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky in a position to succeed. General manager Ryan Pace’s job hinges on Trubisky’s ability to lead the Bears into the playoffs. If Trubisky fails, he takes Pace (and probably new coach Matt Nagy) down with him.

In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, Trubisky, who usually doesn’t say much when speaking publicly, got excited when talking about the Bears and said some things to ramp up the fans. In recent interviews, he gushed about Nagy and his offense. He also had a message for the fans:

"I can help deliver what I believe these fans deserve,” he said. “That’s a great organization to root for. That’s winning. … I think they’re hungry and starving for that. I am too. Hopefully, they can match my intensity."

The kid takes on the responsibility of leading the Bears

Trubisky knows the history of quarterbacks in Chicago. Jay Cutler owns most of the Bears’ passing records yet most consider him a mediocre quarterback at best. Trubusky openly takes the responsibility and wants to change the narrative.

Shortly after the Bears drafted Trubisky, he went to a Bulls game. When introduced, the fans booed him mercilessly. The Bears gave up four draft picks to move up just one spot to grab him. The fans were skeptical that the Bears made that move for a quarterback who started only a handful of games in his college career. There were other quarterbacks with better resumes who came to Chicago and flamed out. Now the team was throwing picks to move up just one spot in the draft for him?

Trubisky says he’ll always remember that. That experience, he says, will drive him throughout his career.

In his second year as the starting quarterback, Trubisky earned respect from others not just how he acts on the field but also by how he treats people. He shows the same respect for the coaches, his teammates, and even just the regular people who work at Halas Hall. He’ll get water and towels for his teammates. Additionally, he gets to know the smoothie maker and the janitor. In fact, the janitor, Jorge, is teaching Trubisky Spanish.

Also per Bleacher Report:

"Everybody knows I’m here to win football games. But I’m here for you as well as a person. My teammates know that, and I think that’s helped me gain everybody’s respect and helped them believe in me. And their belief in me gives me confidence."

Trubisky is as excited about the upcoming season as the fans are. He wants to deliver winning seasons to Bears fans. He loves the new offense and his new weapons and it shows in the way he talks. His love for his teammates and the fans is obvious. His excitement is contagious. Hopefully, the results end up being as exciting as Trubisky expects.
