WR Jamison Crowder

Entering his contract year, Washington wide receiver Jamison Crowder is set for a huge year. Crowder’s 2017 season didn’t go quite as planned. He struggled as a punt returner, coughing up the ball on several occasions and hurting his team in the progress. Offensively, he was solid but also had some issues with drops. It was an uncharacteristic year for Crowder and he appears to be an ideal bounce-back candidate.

With Smith under center, Crowder is having a phenomenal camp. Crowder is almost uncoverable in the slot and he has Smith and Gruden raving about his production.

Smith is the type of quarterback who trusts tight ends and slot receivers. That could mean a lot of Crowder and Reed — if he stays healthy. Crowder could put up huge numbers at the perfect time, especially after Minnesota’s Stefon Diggs just signed a rich extension.

Ideally, the Redskins would like to move Crowder off punt returns and let him focus solely on offense. However, Gruden is apparently having none of it. We’ll see how the Redskins proceed in the preseason at punt returner. Ultimately, rookie cornerback Greg Stroman is the likely return man, but he first must impress and make the team as a cornerback.
