New Orleans Saints: 3 Things to watch for in Preseason Week 1
1. Who does the defense have to fall back on?
Early reports out of training camp have been positive. Both the offense and defense are on almost the same wavelength. However, most of the talk has been about the defense and how well they’re playing together as a unit. The sheer amount of depth at linebacker is especially exciting.
Even with the amount of hype, it’s important to watch who is taking the field. The Saints will likely rest all their immediate starters, but it’s a chance for fans to see the backup guys. For the most part, talk has been centered around the starters and their back-ups but not much about rookies.
A lot of the team’s free agent pickups seem to be working out. Patrick Robinson, in particular, is worth watching. Fresh off a Super Bowl season with the Eagles, Robinson is an underrated name but one fans should watch for. Hopefully, he makes his debut as a Saint again in Week 1.
In terms of rookies, fans should watch and see if defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth takes the field. He’s been showing flashes during camp and has a chance against the Jags. Since a lot of the depth is at linebacker, definitely watch to see who plays for a majority of the game.
