3. Running back rotation

Washington released an unofficial depth chart this week that many talking about rookie Derrius Guice being fourth on the team’s depth chart at running back.

You probably shouldn’t read too much into it either. Gruden said as much when asked by the local media his thoughts on the team’s depth chart. Gruden replied, “I didn’t really look at it,” per Ben Standig of the Sports Capitol DC.

These types of things are done by either the team’s website or P.R. team. The coaching staff generally has very little to do with a preseason depth chart. So there’s nothing to Guice being listed as No. 4 on Washington’s depth chart.

Now, the biggest question is who will play on Thursday night? Guice will certainly see plenty of time, but will his time come early in the game or late against New England’s fringe defenders?

Rob Kelley is entering his third season in Washington. Outside of a few games, he’s been largely ineffective. Despite being listed first on the depth chart, he’s in a battle for a roster spot with second-year back Samaje Perine, Kapri Bibbs , and Byron Maxwell.

Expect to see plenty of Kelley and Perine as they battle for one spot, while Bibbs and Maxwell are likely competing for the job to backup third-down ace Chris Thompson. And no, you won’t see Thompson on Thursday night.
