QB Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins

Based on his current ADP Tannehill is being drafted as the QB30, which is just crazy. While he has never been a superstar he has finished as a QB1 before and people seem to forget how well he was playing the last time we saw him on the field before tearing his ACL. He is now fully healed and has an even stronger grasp on head coach Adam Gase’s system.

More from NFL Spin Zone

After a shaky start in 2016 Tannehill clearly found his groove in the new system and took off leading the Dolphins to a playoff birth. During an eight-game run which saw him win seven games he was a legitimate starting option with the exception of one disastrous game in Baltimore. During that span, he was completing about 70 percent of his passes while averaging over 215 yards per game with a TD-to-INT ration of 13-4.

There is no reason to believe he can’t play at a similar or better level in 2018. The best thing that may have happened for his Fantasy value is losing his security blanket Jarvis Landry. This should prevent him from overusing the check down to Juice on a nearly constant basis.

The team has quietly added a number of playmakers as well since we’ve last seen Tannehill. He’ll now have a ton of speed at disposal with guys like Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant. Rookie tight end Mike Gesicki is his first true big red zone threat and Kenyan Drake is a much better pass-catcher and big-play threat than Jay Ajayi was.

I’m not saying you should draft him as some sort of sure-fire QB1, but I expect him to be a solid QB2. Which is a far cry from his abysmal ADP. Right now I will take him over guys like Dak Prescott and Pat Mahomes who are both being drafted as mid-level QB2s. Grab Tannehill late as a QB2 and you will be thrilled with his output this year. This is the best offense he has ever had around him when you consider it’s his best offensive line and he finally has some playmakers around him.
