Fantasy Football 2018: 5 Wide receivers who can make jump to elite
4. Robbie Anderson, New York Jets
It’s no secret that Ballin’ Bob Anderson has became a borderline fantasy man crush for me after saving my WR3 spot from disaster last year. I haven’t liked a Jet this much since Terrell Buckley was on the squad.
Anderson doesn’t get the love he deserves because of the situation he’s in. The Jets offense is viewed as a dead zone. He’s looked at as an incomplete, inconsistent receiver with a lot to still prove and to make matters worse no one feels comfortable with the unknowns of the quarterback situation. Josh McCown isn’t viewed as an asset and, even if Sam Darnold pans out long term, he’s still a rookie quarterback on a team that hasn’t exactly built trust in their ability to select quarterbacks.
I’m not worried about that though. Top-end wideouts are good enough to raise the level of their quarterback. A guy like A.J. Green can make in spite of his quarterback not because of him. Anderson was much more consistent last year than he’s given credit for. It shouldn’t take to much for him to take a leap forward. Last year, he caught 63 passes for 941 yards and seven touchdowns. We saw him hit his stride with a five-game touchdown streak, a two-score game, three 100-yard games and he was targeted double-digit times four times last season as a virtual unknown.
Now established as the top target for the Jets, I expect him to explode. The quarterbacks are good enough as they were last season and, as a player, he should be better as well. My only concern here is a potential looming suspension. However, I do not fear Darnold or mediocre receivers like Quincy Enunwa or Terrelle Pryor.
