Green Bay Packers: 3 Big takeaways from Preseason Week 3
Hundley is the likely bet for QB2
Many fans won’t like this news. Brett Hundley is the safe bet to be the primary backup quarterback to Aaron Rodgers in 2018. He’s played the majority of first-team snaps in the preseason. Also, in training camp, he was taking reps with first backups and starters the majority of the time.
It’s hard to say if Kizer will make the roster or not. McCarthy wants the best 53 players on his roster in a couple of weeks. You’d think that if you traded for a player like Kizer, you’d keep him on the roster, but anything can happen.
On the field, Hundley has arguably played better than Kizer. Despite not putting up the stats to prove that, Hundley has been much more efficient as a quarterback. Kizer has had more playing time than Hundley this offseason, but it all boils down to who is more ready to lead this offense if Aaron Rodgers is not able to play. Right now, it looks like Hundley is more ready for the primary backup spot.
There is still one preseason game left, however. Anything can happen in a week in the NFL. Preseason game number four is the last chance for backups to make a push onto the 53-man roster or practice squad. There is a good chance Hundley doesn’t play at all next Thursday. It could, and probably will be, Kizer’s time to shine.
