Byron Maxwell

At first it might seem hard to believe that the veteran is on the bubble, but it makes sense when you think about it. The Seahawks are rebuilding their team with a lot of young prospects. Maxwell is already 30 years old and he’s doesn’t have the irreplaceable talent of a guy like Earl Thomas. There’s a reason why the Miami Dolphins cut the veteran last October. His play is just too erratic for someone with his experience.

If the Seahawks secondary is going to struggle in 2018, which it will, it would serve as a good lesson for younger players who are still working towards reaching their prime. Maxwell is already on the downside of his career. If Maxwell does make the roster it’ll be because of his veteran leadership and familiarity with how Carroll wants to do things. Remember, he was a part of the Legion of Boom when the Seahawks won the Super Bowl.

The biggest concern with the aging Maxwell might be his ability to stick with faster receivers. Last season he showed a lack of ability to stick with younger, quicker, more agile players. He ended up giving up a ton of yards and was beat on a regular basis. With his best years behind him and no potential of improving in the future, Maxwell could be a prime candidate to be axed by the Seahawks.
