The aggressive defense looks good

I really enjoy watching the ascension of the Chicago Bears defense. After years of poor performances, they’re again looking like the Bears defense of old. Don’t mind the 2- straight points the defense gave up in the second half. At the end of the game, there were some pretty gassed players trying to run and catch their breaths. For most of the game, the defense spent a lot of time in the Bills’ backfield. They harrassed AJ McCarron all game long, sacking him five times.

Vic Fangio dialed up the pressure in the last three games. He does a great job of putting his players in the right place to make plays. Turning up the pressure and getting to the quarterback forces the quarterback to make mistakes. McCarron threw two interceptions in the game.

After a tough game against the Denver Broncos two weeks ago, Doran Grant made up for it. He had his second interception of the preseason. I think he did just enough to make the team.

In the secondary, after having some hope for Kevin Toliver II, I don’t think he did enough to make the team. If he clears waivers, he could come back and play on the practice squad. He has a lot of talent but just can’t put it together. Another team may see his talent and want to take a chance on him, though.

Kylie Fitts and Bilal Nichols played well. Fitts recorded two tackles and half a sack while Nichols had two tackles and 1.5 sacks. Fitts may get a lot more playing time than many thought early in training camp. Nichols will be a good backup to Akiem HIcks.

Last season, the Bears ranked seventh in the NFL in sacks with 42. I believe they can get into the top-three. We’ll see the return of the Monsters of the Midway defense in 2018.
