1. Miami Dolphins: Drew Lock, Missouri, QB

We kick off our 2019 NFL Mock Draft with the Miami Dolphins selecting quarterback Drew Lock. While he’s not the consensus No. 1 pick — and may not be in the mix with names like Ed Oliver and Nick Bosa dominating that discussion — the Dolphins still decide it’s best to get a new gunslinger.

It may seem a bit surprising considering they currently have Ryan Tannehill under center and he’s only about halfway through the six-year $96 million extension he signed back in 2015, but if they finish with the No. 1 pick, things will be changing.

Despite his hefty contract, the jury is still out on Tannehill. He missed all of 2017 after the team made the postseason the year prior. After their 10-win campaign in 2016, he missed the playoffs as well with an injury. Not only that, but the real reason they even rebounded from a poor start in 2016 and won 10 games is that they started leaning less on Tannehill and more on the ground game.

Should they finish the season with this pick, head coach Adam Gase is going to be gone and Tannehill will be right behind him. To replace him, the new regime targets Lock — the 6-3, 226-pound gunslinger with a strong arm and plenty of upside. They’ll need more around him to succeed, but this is a good start.
