Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Bold predictions for Week 1 vs. Falcons
By Carl Naimoli
3. Nick Foles Will Continue to Struggle
For the Eagles fans who think that Nick Foles is going to put his preseason struggles behind him and get back to his playoff form from last year, don’t get ahead of yourself. Foles isn’t a machine who can just flip a switch and get back to Pro Bowl caliber.
Foles’ play during the preseason wasn’t exactly what Eagles fans expected. Many thought he would start right where he led off when he was named Super Bowl MVP against the Patriots. Instead he looked rusty and out of sorts.
That was understandable, he didn’t have his top wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and he won’t have him against the Falcons as he is hurt. He’ll still be able to fall back on tight end Zach Ertz, but he’ll have to find a way to form chemistry with newly signed Mike Wallace.
Also, the Falcons were able to hold Foles to his worst playoff performance last year. Expect them to be ready for the RPO that Foles and the Eagles love so much. The Falcons defense was much improved last season and is only looking up. Expect them to be opportunistic and jump on every chance Foles gives them.
Keep an eye on Foles early in the game. If he struggles early and the Eagles find themselves trailing he’s going to have to find a way to right the ship to give the Eagles a chance to win.
