Dallas Cowboys: 5 Potential Jason Garrett replacements
By Randy Gurzi
5. Kris Richard, Defensive Backs Coach
Should the team completely fall apart this season — like they did in 2010 under head coach Wade Phillips — Dallas could make a change in season. In 2010, they started out 1-7 and Jones finally fired Phillips, which is something he had said he didn’t like doing while the season was still going on.

The fact Jones hates making such drastic moves during the season makes it less than likely he would do so, but if he changed his mind it would be an easy transition to move Kris Richard from his defensive back coach position to the head coach.
He already knows the players from working with them this offseason and has earned their respect.
Richard was part of the Seahawks since 2010 when he was an assistant defensive backs coach. He helped coach the ‘Legion of Boom’ which went on to become one of the most feared passing defenses in recent memory.
After Seattle let him go in 2017, the Cowboys were more than happy to bring him aboard. He’s got a lot of fire and players respond to that. Even if Garret isn’t gone during the year, Richard needs to be on the short list for replacements. He will be an NFL head coach one day, perhaps Dallas could be that place.
