Seattle Seahawks: 5 Players to watch vs. Bears in Week 2
By Samuel Teets
Will Dissly
He was advertised as a blocking tight end, but he seems to be some much more. The rookie caught three passes on Sunday and gained over 100 yards. I’ve mentioned several times that the Seahawks might struggle to get over the losses of Jimmy Graham and Luke Willson this offseason, but Dissly matched their usual combined production by himself.
Of course, it was just one game. Week 2 will give us an opportunity to see Dissly in action again and we’ll see if he can repeat his outstanding Week 1 performance. People have been calling for the Seahawks to give Wilson more weapons forever, and right now Dissly is looking like a great option for a security blanket. Those kinds of tight ends, the Jason Witten’s and Heath Miller’s of the world, are a quarterback’s best friend in the passing game.
Because he can block well, Dissly will see a lot of reps during the coming weeks. I hope Carroll makes a conscious effort to also employ him in the pass game. The Denver Broncos have a good pass defense and Dissly made fools out of them. He could be the young offensive weapon the Seahawks have been looking for over the last few seasons. There’s no reason to not give him a shot at becoming a consistent pass catcher.
