Green Bay Packers: 3 Big takeaways from tie vs. Vikings in Week 2
Offensive line continues to struggle
Once again, the Green Bay Packers offensive line failed to protect the franchise. It was one of my keys to victory for the Packers. The line held up well for Rodgers in the first half, but failed to do so after that. With Rodgers not at 100 percent, the offensive line needs to keep Rodgers on his feet. He is not able to move around and scramble like he normally does.
Four sacks were recorded throughout the game, but there were many more times that Rodgers landed on his back. The Minnesota Vikings front seven is one of the best in the league. If Rodgers gets hurt again, Green Bay will not be as lucky as they were in Week 1.
He is one of the best quarterbacks against the blitz though, and this game was no different. Per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Rodgers went 9-of-9 for 87 yards against the blitz and 6-of-4 for 94 yards (with 11 rushing yards) when pressured.
Jimmy Graham had a touchdown called back because of a holding call on guard Lane Taylor. The Packers had to settle for a field goal instead. That proved costly as those extra four points could have sealed the game for Green Bay when it was all said and done. However, hindsight is always 20/20.
Luckily, the offensive line gets to face easier front sevens for the next couple of weeks. It is not until week eight against the Los Angeles Rams that the Packers will face a really good front seven. Until then, the line needs to improve and it should have the opportunity to do so.
