Pass rush continues to struggle

The predicted weakness of this Green Bay Packers team going into the season was the lack of a consistent pass rush. In Week 1, it showed. However, the rush got off to a hot start against Minnesota. A beautiful sack early in the game from Reggie Gilbert and Jaire Alexander seemed promising, but that was one of two sacks for the entire game.

One of the trademarks of past Packers defense was the ability to cause havoc on opposing quarterbacks. That just isn’t the case with this group of players.

Reggie Gilbert is still young and has a lot of improving to do. Nick Perry and Clay Matthews are both overrated for the most part. The defensive line is the lone bright spot for the Packers pass rush right now. Even against a bad Vikings offensive line, the Packers could not get any pressure on Kirk Cousins and Co.

The Packers are fortunate enough to have an easier schedule for the next couple of weeks. In that stretch, they face some bad offensive lines. Most notably, the Buffalo Bills offensive line ranks 29th in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus’ preseason rankings. Similar to the Packers offensive line, the next couple of weeks will be beneficial for improvement. Hopefully, everyone can take advantage.
