2. Sam Darnold

All offseason long we were told about his bounce back ability. He made mistakes but didn’t repeat them. We were also told that his demeanor is such that he doesn’t get too high or too low. This game is the first test of that.

Even though he had a decent game, it was filled with rookie mistakes. He missed Robby Anderson downfield. He had a bad interception, and an interception that wasn’t his fault. Finally, the offensive line let him down in this game, unlike in Detroit. Terrelle Pryor even took the blame when speaking to the press, according to NJ.com.

"“I let him down,” Pryor said. “I said it to him after the game, I said, ‘I hope you can forgive me, I’ll make sure I’m there next time.’ That’s not on Sam and I wish it could go on a stat for me … that’s all I keep thinking about is that play.”"

In the end, this game is all about upstairs for Darnold. If he can quickly get over the last game and move on to this game, it’ll show early. He has to let the go and keep trusting Pryor and hope he doesn’t make that mistake again. It’s all psychological for Darnold. This game is the proving ground for getting over the mental hurdle of the first really tough game of his career.
