Ryan Tannehill’s Efficiency

Ryan Tannehill has been a polarizing and divisive figure amongst the Dolphins fanbase. This is mostly due to the incoherent need for tribalized extremism on social media. The truth is, most are wrong about him and the truth lies between the two sides. This is year seven, so we have a decent size body of work to go off of.

Tannehill is a slightly above average quarterback with the ability to be efficient and limit his mistakes, adding athletic ability to get things done. He’s never going to be an elite quarterback that is going to put the team on his shoulder and consistently carry them to wins, but he absolutely doesn’t stink either and there are a lot of starting quarterbacks I’d choose him over.

What’s been most impressive about Tannehill to this point in 2018 has been his efficiency. He’s made a few turnovers I’m sure he’d love back, but he’s also not seeing the ball hit the ground too often. Through two games, he’s completed 72.5 percent of his passes with 104.9 rating.

What may be the most positive thing to take from this is that he has room to improve and should. When you consider he’s made mistakes that are easy to fix and he hadn’t played since late 2016, things could just be getting started for him.

This is exactly who the team needs this quarterback to be to win games and his numbers should improve as well. He’s thrown for 398 yards and four touchdowns. Week 1 they were playing in rains that caused the game to be delayed twice and stretched out over seven hours and Week 2 they were up by 20 at the half and protecting the league in the second half. Things have started off as well as possible for Tannehill.
