Tyler Lockett

Doug Baldwin was notably restless on the sideline during the game. He’s been out with a grade 2 MCL tear and it’s not clear exactly when he’ll return. His absence has been felt by the entire offense but Lockett is working hard to fill the whole left by the Pro Bowler. Each week, Lockett has gotten more involved and played better.

He recorded four receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown. Most of his yardage came on a deep 52-yard strike in the second quarter. Lockett’s speed is well documented and he’s beginning to show it on offense, not just on special teams, which is a welcome sight for Seahawks fans surely.

Lockett is in his fourth year with the Seahawks who drafted him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. So far he’s averaging a career high for receiving yards per game with 65.3, which dwarfs his previous personal best of 41.5 from back in his rookie season.

I’ve long wondered what Lockett’s ceiling is as an offensive weapon. He is an explosive, top notch return man, but his rookie season was arguably his best as a wide receiver. Right now he’s answering the call and is on pace to set personal bests in all three major receiving categories. He has three receiving touchdowns in as many games, while he only had three over the last two seasons. When Baldwin returns, he’ll be happy to see the growth in his younger counterpart.
