Clay Matthews, Linebacker

If Clay Matthews can escape Week 4 without a roughing the passer penalty, it will be a successful week. So far, in three games this season, Clay has recorded three such penalties. Although, two of those clearly weren’t illegal hits.

Obviously, it’s frustrating for Matthews, because he really doesn’t know what do to anymore. Putting your hands on a quarterback is roughing the passer for him. If he’s called for it this Sunday, especially if it is a bad call like we have seen for the last couple of weeks, it won’t be a pretty sight.

However, Matthews needs to lead a unit that has struggled this season — one of the worst things about this team has shown so far. The Packers need to get a pass rush going. They have faced some bad offensive lines already but have nothing to show for it.

You don’t need to record large amounts of sacks in order to have a good pass rush either. Just getting to the quarterback and making him uncomfortable, pays dividends.

When you face a rookie quarterback, like Josh Allen, making him uncomfortable is one of the best things you can do as a defense. That needs to happen on Sunday. Clay Matthews has put the pass rush on his back before. We need to see the 2010 version of Clay Matthews on Sunday, the one that scares opposing quarterbacks.
