One question needs to be asked about John DeFilippo. How long can he live off of what happened in Philadelphia when he was the quarterbacks coach? Yes, Carson Wentz progressed well before his injury, and Nick Foles did what he did in the Super Bowl. That said, how’s the offense doing in Minnesota under his watch?

When you look at the passing part of the offense in Minnesota to start 2018, it looks good. The Vikings rank fifth in the league in pass offense and sixth in passing touchdowns. There’s a problem though, the rushing offense isn’t up to par at all.

The Vikings are dead last in attempts and yards and 30th in yards per attempt. That’s not a good sign. Current Jets offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates has some legitimate reasons as to why parts of his offense are failing, but DeFilippo doesn’t.

On the other hand, he is working well with Kirk Cousins, and he did work well with the quarterbacks of the Eagles. So, there are good things for the future of the franchise quarterback, Sam Darnold. DeFilippo may be just the flavor of the month for now, but there are both positive and negatives to look at from him. Therefore, while he’s the name at the top of most fans’ lists, let’s not name him the man too soon.
