Green Bay Packers: 3 Players to watch vs. Lions in Week 5
Aaron Jones, Running Back
Look at who makes the list again. Hopefully, the Green Bay Packers coaching staff takes notice. Probably not, but the Packers need to give Aaron Jones the ball 20-plus times every week.
What a better week to start? The Detroit Lions have the worst run defense in the NFL this year. They’ve given up 157.8 yards per game through four games so far. They will be without one of their best defenders too as Ziggy Ansah will not play once again this week. The matchup cannot favor Jones any better. He’s easily been the Packers best running despite missing the first two games of the season.
Jones is tied for fifth in the NFL in terms of yards per rush. He is one of the most explosive rushers in the league. He needs to be used a lot more than he has this season. Don’t forget about Jones in the passing game, either. He had a beautiful 17-yard reception off a screen pass on Sunday too.
The Packers receiving corps is dealing with numerous injuries. Subsequently, Green Bay needs to rely on the running game so they can take the pressure off the rookie wide receivers who will be playing in a bigger role on Sunday.
Everything seems to be lining up for Jones to have a big day in Detroit. The only thing holding him back is how often head coach Mike McCarthy will have Jones on the field. Hopefully, it’s more than what we have seen so far.
