Green Bay Packers: 3 Big takeaways from loss vs. Lions in Week 5
Where is Aaron Jones?
It’s getting ridiculous. Aaron Jones is the best running back on the Green Bay Packers roster. Despite that, he had seven carries throughout the whole game. It’s frustrating. Every time Jones gets the ball, he makes plays. He needs 15 carries per game at a minimum at this point, but isn’t getting that type of work.
This is all on McCarthy. He knows that Jones is the best running back on the roster. However, he feels the need to plug in Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery for more snaps than they need. I’m not downplaying Williams or Montgomery. Both are great athletes who deserve their chances, but Jones needs to lead this trio of running backs from now until the end of the season.
Against the Lions had the worst rush defense in the NFL coming into the game, and McCarthy gave the Packers’ best back seven total carries. Other than letting Mason Crosby continue to miss field goals, this was McCarthy’s worst mistake of the game.
Because of the lack of running plays, the Lions are now middle of the pack in terms of rush yards per game allowed.
The Packers have a knack for making horrible players look good. Today was no different. The offense recorded 98 rushing yards against the worst rush defense. I don’t understand what goes on in McCarthy’s head anymore. Please, give Aaron Jones the ball.
