Green Bay Packers: 3 Big takeaways from loss vs. Lions in Week 5
Mason Crosby
Mason Crosby had the worst kicking performance of his career. He has been the Green Bay Packers kicker since 2007. For 12 years, the Packers have been able to rely on the foot of Crosby.
From his first ever game-winner in his first pro game, to another game-winner against the Giants to keep the Packers undefeated in 2011, to his clutch game-tying field goal in the 2015 NFC Championship Game, Crosby has had numerous clutch moments while donning the Green and Gold.
On Sunday, Crosby went 1-of-5 on field goals and 0-of-1 on extra points. He left a total of 13 points on the board today. If he makes those kicks, the Packers escape Detroit with a 36-31 win. The Packers wouldn’t have attempted for two on two occasions either if Crosby doesn’t miss those field goals. The Packers still would have won either way though.
The point here is you have to make your field goals. The snap and hold on each kick wasn’t bad at all, after watching replays. The misses were just on Crosby.
Aaron Rodgers fully supported and comforted his longtime teammate during and after the game. What’s more, during his portion of the post-game press conference, Rodgers had this to say:
After an atrocious 2012 season, Crosby came back in 2013 and was almost automatic. He’s faced adversity before, maybe he comes back next week and goes 4/4 with a game-winning field goal. Hopefully, it isn’t that close of a game next week though.
