New York Jets: 4 Standouts from Week 5 vs. Broncos
3. Leonard Williams
Williams was quiet for the first three weeks. In fact, his name wasn’t even on the box score against the Cleveland Browns, as he failed to record a stat. Jets coaches then started talking about “hidden production,” which was scoffed at by the media and fans.
Then last week in the loss to the Jaguars, Williams recorded his first sack. To say today was the best game of the season would be the understatement of the decade. Not only was it the best game of the season, but it was better than the rest of the season combined.
This was a total annihilation of the Broncos offensive line. Williams was in the backfield for most of the day wreaking havoc. He had one solo sack and two assists on sacks (for a total of two), two tackles for loss, and forced hit Case Keenum a lot.
Williams was a beast. A game like the one against the Broncos is the reason Mike Maccagnan took him sixth overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. If he can continue to ride the wave, he will continue to prove the doubters wrong this season. It’s not just about one game, or the last two for that matter, but for this game, he definitely stood out above the rest of the defense.
