Chris Carson

Through five weeks of football, only four of which he played in, Carson has proved he’s worthy of the starting running back job. At the start of the season he was set to share the responsibility with rookie Rashaad Penny who seemed destined to eventually take the job from Carson. Now the Seahawks would be insane to replace Carson with Penny.

With just 19 carries Carson racked up 116 rushing yards against a Rams defense that features All-Pro defensive tackles Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh. He averaged 6.1 yards per carry against the best defensive tackle combo in the sport and did it by banging against and bouncing off of defenders.

This is Carson’s second straight 100-yard rushing performance, not counting him having to sit out last week. His 6.1 yards per carry was the second most he’s had in a game this season and the most he’s had in a 100-yard performance in 2018.

Carson’s rise to the starting job was an unlikely one. He was a seventh round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He made the Seahawks roster and ended up starting three games last season for the team when other running options either underwhelmed or were injured. He was playing well but after three starts he sustained a season ending injury. And now he’s come back even better this season and has cemented himself as the lone starter.
