Tyler Lockett

Doug Baldwin played on Sunday, but was still hampered by an injury and was less effective than he usually is. Lockett, who was the team’s top receiver when Baldwin missed more time at the start of the season, stepped up to fill the Pro Bowler’s shoes.

The fourth year pro out of Kansas St. led the Seahawks in receiving. He actually more than doubled the yardage of the second closest Seattle player during the game. On five targets Lockett caught three passes for 98 yards (an average of 32.7 yards per catch) and a touchdown.

His touchdown came on a deep, 44-yard bomb from Russell Wilson. To get into position to make the catch Lockett bolted right past former All-Pro Marcus Peters, leaving him in the dust.

Lockett didn’t just help his team out on offense though. As a kick returner Lockett put his speed to good use again and returned three kicks for 77 yards. One of the returns went for a whopping 42 yards and gave the Seahawks offense great field positioning.

I admit I was highly critical of Lockett entering the season and I doubted his ability to produce as a teams’ leading receiver. However, he has blown away all of my expectations and is on pace to have his finest receiving season yet.
