The Dallas Cowboys have spent far too much time trying to figure out what’s wrong on offense, which begs the question of whether it’s the quarterback to blame for their woes
This season is not going the way the Dallas Cowboys expected it to. The same could be said for 2017, but they felt like there were extenuating circumstances that affected that season. This year though, it was supposed to be different.
There were no looming suspensions over running back Ezekiel Elliott‘s head. There was no Dez Bryant commanding the ball. Left tackle Tyron Smith was healthy. It was all supposed to be better. Then when the season kicked off, they looked like the same exact team that limped their way to a 4-4 finish in 2017.
Those who want to say it’s because Bryant is gone, or because Jason Witten retired are missing the point. The truth is, even with those two players there a season ago, this offense looked stagnant and without an identity.

There’s no real difference between the 2017 Cowboys and the team we have seen in Weeks 1-5. Which means the problem is someone on the team now, and fingers are starting to be pointed more often at quarterback Dak Prescott.
Dak is considered a great team leader and he’s an incredibly likable guy. Still, no matter how easy he is to root for, he struggles with accuracy and one of the best to ever put on the star has no problem saying exactly that.
Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman said flat-out that Prescott has to be more accurate with the ball if the Boys are ever going to get things figured out on offense.
"“He needs to be more accurate with the football,” Aikman said on 1310 AM The Ticket via Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram. “I’ve said for many, many years, as long as I can ever remember, when I’m asked, ‘Hey, what do you look for first in a quarterback?’ The first thing I look for is accuracy because the rest of it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter how tough you are. It doesn’t matter how smart you are or what a great leader you are. None of that stuff matters if you can’t put the ball where you have to put it.”"
Aikman went on to say there have been far too many “errant throws” out of the current Cowboys starter. He also questioned his anticipation and ability to read the safeties and take advantage of what’s there.

With someone as knowledgeable as Aikman coming out and saying these things, the question has to be asked if the Cowboys need to consider life after Prescott.
It’s a fair question as 2019 will be the final year he’s under contract with the team. If they believe he’s a starter, he’s going to command decent money because all starting quarterbacks seem to get paid. A lot.
If they don’t think he’s the guy, this coming draft may be the time to look at potential replacements with guys like Justin Herbert, Drew Lock, and Will Grier entering the draft.
This season was huge for the future of Prescott in Big D. So far, he hasn’t looked the part of their franchise signal-caller. He has time to turn it around, but it may not be the worst idea to start scouting potential replacements. Just in case.
