After his breakout performance, Mitch Trubisky needs to continue his momentum

With his six touchdown passes in Week 4, Mitch Trubisky had his breakthrough performance. He had a great grasp of the offense. He looked comfortable and made all the right decisions.

After such a great game, Trubisky and Nagy and offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich went back to the board and worked on learning even more. Now that he had a good chunk of the offense learned, he needs to learn more of it. The good thing is he had two weeks to learn more.

Trubisky cannot return to the struggling, timid quarterback. He needs to show that while he might not end up throwing six touchdown passes in every game, that he did well was no fluke. He needs to show that yes, he owns this offense.

The Dolphins have a pretty good secondary. They lead the NFL in interceptions with 10. Yes, Trubisky had a great game against Tampa, but their defense is weak. The Dolphins defense presents a better challenge.

The injury to cornerback Bobby McCain hurts the Dolphins, though. Miami hasn’t announced if he’ll play, but it’s doubtful. Even if he does he won’t be 100 percent and the receiving corps consisting of Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, and perhaps Kevin White (with Anthony Miller‘s injury perhaps slowing him down) could take advantage.

Also, add in Trey Burton and Tarik Cohen and Trubisky can have another stellar game. The Dolphins also have linebacker Cameron Wake dealing with a knee injury that could slow him down or even keep him out of the game. That helps slow down Miami’s pass rush.

Trubisky has taken his lumps in the media and with fans despite having the Bears in first place. The team wants to move away from having a dominant defense and an offense that just gets by. They want to finally have an offense that can carry the team once in awhile. Hopefully, Trubisky’s game against Tampa got them started in that direction.
