Oakland Raiders: Big-name targets ahead of 2018 NFL trade deadline
Ronald Darby, CB, Philadelphia Eagles
It’s no secret the Raiders need help in just about every aspect of their defense. Cornerback, however, is a particular sore spot that has played a big part in Oakland’s 1-4 start.

At this moment, the Raiders are ranked 23rd against the pass, although their lack of a pass rush has played a big part in that. Still, Gareon Conley has struggled during his sophomore campaign, leaving Rashaan Melvin as Oakland’s only legitimate starting cornerback. Put simply, more help is needed.
Why not take a swing at Ronald Darby?
Sure, the former second-round pick out of Florida State has had a rough 2018 campaign so far. Fans are already calling for his benching (or trading), especially with players like Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas and Avonte Maddox waiting in the wings. Unless he turns it around in a big hurry, the Eagles may be forced to make a rash decision with their starting cornerback.
If that’s the case, the Raiders should pounce. Yes, Darby is having a tough year so far, but he’s still a quality cornerback. And with his value low at this moment, they could probably get him for a reduced price. It just makes sense, especially considering the woes Oakland has had in the secondary over the last few seasons.
If Darby becomes available, Gruden should at least give Eagles general manager Howie Roseman a call.
