The Miami Dolphins will be without Ryan Tannehill in Week 6, meaning that Brock Osweiler is about to get destroyed by the Chicago Bears.

What was once a promising season for the Miami Dolphins has taken a stark turn for the worse in recent weeks. After beginning their 2018 campaign at 3-0, they have fallen flat against stouter competition, falling to the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals. In Week 6, they welcome the Chicago Bears to South Beach.

On the surface, this could be a bad matchup for the Dolphins anyway. Since trading for Khalil Mack, the Bears have established themselves as one of the NFL’s best defenses. What’s more, Mitchell Trubisky finally seemed to take to Matt Nagy’s offense prior to their bye week, throwing for six touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If that weren’t a formidable enough matchup, things are now about to get worse for the Dolphins. Against the Bears, Miami will be without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Subsequently, that means that Brock Osweiler will be starting at quarterback for the Dolphins on Sunday, per Craig Mish of Sirius XM.

During the preseason action that Osweiler saw, he wasn’t all that bad for the Dolphins. The veteran quarterback completed 62.1 percent of his throws for 321 yards, two touchdowns and just one interception. What’s more, he showed up in garbage time against the Pats and actually threw Miami’s only touchdown of the night.

Having said that, we know what the Brock Osweiler experience actually entails. In 2016 with the Houston Texans, he completed just 59 percent of his passes while throwing 15 touchdowns to 16 interceptions — and he may have been even worse than those stats show.

Osweiler is a big quarterback that lacks any semblance of confidence-inspiring quality in his play. He’s inaccurate, makes poor decisions and can be easily rattled. That’s a recipe for disaster against this Bears defense.

Mack and the Bears bring relentless pressure from start to finish in a game. What’s more, they have the talent in the linebacker corps and the secondary to make things difficult should a quarterback have time to make a throw. There’s a reason they have dominated on that side of the ball this season.

There’s a good chance that Dolphins head coach Adam Gase knows the matchup at hand and won’t put too much on Osweiler’s plate. However, it’s impossible and unwise to run the ball 70 times in a game. Thus, the ball is going to be in the backup quarterback’s hands at several points in this game.

With that, it’s hard to think that anything good is coming down the pipeline for the Dolphins in Week 6. We could be about to witness an unmitigated disaster playing out on Sunday with the Bears defense vs. Brock Osweiler.
