2. Sam Darnold

Last week against the Broncos, Sam Darnold broke out his shell and took some shots deep, and connected on a few. His numbers weren’t spectacular in that game, but he got the job done. This week he broke out even more.

He finished the game 24 for 30 with 280 yards and two touchdowns (113.9 passer rating). On his first 12 attempts he only had one incomplete pass — his lone interception on the day.

The most impressive part of the game was that he lost Quincy Enunwa early to injury and managed to spread the ball around. Seven different receivers had a catch, and three of them had at least three catches.

Darnold had been heavily reliant upon Enunwa heading into the game. Enunwa had 39 targets heading into the game against the Colts, and no other Jets receiver had as many as 20 — second on the team was Robby Anderson with 18. He targeted Anderson five times, Terrelle Pryor six times, and Jermaine Kearse 10 times in this game.

The rookie quarterback did a great job getting everyone involved. He spread the ball around, and got two tight ends involved as well. It was a coming out party for Darnold. It’s safe to say he has finally arrived with his performance.
