2. Extended preseason

We were very quick to judge this team, especially the offensive line. During the first four weeks, it looked like the “same old Jets.” The last two look very different.

Let’s not forget this is a young football team, and some are still learning the game, namely one of the most important positions on defense and the quarterback. Also, the collective bargaining agreement limits practice time and training camp. So, that means the early part of the season — even though the games count — can be like an extended preseason.

Lately we’ve seen the New England Patriots do just that. They’ve started slowly and gotten into a rhythm by the time the calendar turned to October. Things started off with a bang Week 1 and then turned sour for the next three weeks. That said, they’ve heated things up in the last two weeks against the Broncos and Colts.

Basically, they were finding their way, and it was an extension of the preseason. Now the Jets know they can win in multiple ways. It won’t be smooth sailing from here on out, because their quarterback is young, but the Jets have film that shows what they are capable of, and they can always look back at these two weeks for that.
