The Deep Ball and Rush Defense was Dreadful

Despite entering the game 1-4 and coming off a loss to the even worse Arizona Cardinals, the San Francisco 49ers had control of the game for the majority of the second half. They were doing what the Green Bay Packers should have been doing, pounding the ball through the defense.

San Fran finished with 174 yards rushing, but it seemed like a lot worse. The 49ers were able to get the edge whenever they ran outside. Pair that with the excellent run blocking they had, and it was a recipe for disaster for the Packers defense.

The Packers have the bye week to look at this game and adjust. If the Packers cannot contain the run game, Todd Gurley will run all over them. He is one of the league’s premier backs and will chew up and spit out this Green Bay defense all game long.

Another issue on defense how badly the Packers are getting beat deep. It seems like every game there has been a long touchdown pass from the opponent because of blown coverage deep.

Jared Goff will take that every day of the week. This needs to be cleaned up just like the run game. The Los Angeles Rams have the best offense in the league by far. If the Packers want any shot at winning that game in a couple of weeks, these defensive adjustments need to be made.
