3. Allen Hurns will finally break out

The 2018 season so far for the wide receivers of the Dallas Cowboys hasn’t been one to brag much about. The leading wide receiver for the Cowboys is Cole Beasley with 26 receptions for 294 yards and Terrance Williams has now been suspended for three games for substance abuse issues.

Looking at the stat sheet, the second top wide receiver on the Cowboys is Deonte Thompson with 12 receptions for 103 yards, and then we finally find Allen Hurns with eight receptions for 84 yards and one touchdown.

It is now time for Hurns to step up to the plate and finally get back to where he was just a few short years ago when he caught 64 passes for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2015.

Where has that player gone? Having just eight receptions for 84 yards through six games isn’t what the Cowboys need if they really want to be contenders for the rest of this season in the NFC East.

For most of the season, Hurns hasn’t been targeted that much with 22 targets in the first six games this season, but last Sunday he had a season-high five targets for zero receptions, the first game this season he didn’t have at least one catch.

That performance could be what sparks Hurns this Sunday against the Washington Redskins because that isn’t the player we all know Hurns is capable of being. When in the game, Hurns will most likely be defended by Quinton Dunbar or Josh Norman so it won’t be an easy task, but if Hurns wants to prove he can be what he once was, this is the game to do so.

Hurns is due to have a solid game with the Cowboys — plus the Redskins are allowing 227.2 yards per game passing — and though it will take some help from quarterback Dak Prescott, the ability is there for both of those players. Hurns will be needed greatly if the Cowboys want to win this game on Sunday, as the focus will most likely be on Ezekiel Elliott.
