While the Chicago Bears are playing better than expected, they’ve suffered through some tough losses, disappointing many fans. They are going through growing pains, and continue to improve.

The Chicago Bears suffered a tough 38-31 loss at the hands of the New England Patriots. They made some critical mistakes that led to the loss. On the other hand, they fought through those mistakes and gave the defending AFC Champions all they could handle. They finished one excruciating yard short of tying the game at the end.

After a 3-1 start, the Bears lost their last two and now stand at 3-3. They fell from first place in the NFC North all the way down to last. The division is in a tight race, and the Bears still have five games to play against their division foes so there are still plenty of opportunities for them to get back on track.

While the Bears are playing better than they have over the past half-decade or so, fans are frustrated with some of their miscues that cost them losses. Many feel the team could be undefeated since they lost their three games by a grand total of 11 points. A play here or there and they’re on par with the Los Angeles Rams.

Conversely, a play here or there and the Bears could be struggling with a 1-5 record. Before the Prince Amukamara pick-six, the Seattle Seahawks had the Bears on the ropes. In Arizona, the Bears had no business beating the Cardinals. The only game that was decided early was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game in Week 4.

We have to keep perspective here. Yes, the Bears could have a better record, but they could also be on the same track they’ve been on for the past several seasons.

Bears suffering from growing pains

You can assemble a good team by having a great free agency and draft, but it takes time to build a winning team. Going into the season, I don’t think any rational fan thought the Bears would win the Super Bowl this season. Making it to the playoffs would be a huge thing for the team.

After their great start, however, many fans had visions of the Bears being one of the best teams in the NFL. Now, after two consecutive losses, some move all the way to the other side and feel this is the same old Bears.

The truth is Chicago is somewhere in the middle. They are better than they’ve been, but still aren’t ready for prime time. They’ll learn from the tough losses they suffered. They’ll look at some of the errors made so they can make the proper adjustments.

The schedule for the next two weeks is favorable. They face two struggling teams, the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. These games should make the Bears look good once again. However, don’t be surprised if they lose one of these games. Everyone, from players to coaches, is still learning what works and what doesn’t. When the team gets it together, this will be a tough team to handle.

We will have to continue this up and down roller coaster ride. This is not a finished product, but the pieces are falling into place.
