This one is a no-brainer. The Packers have extra draft capital after acquiring the New Orleans Saints’ 2019 first-round pick in a deal that saw them select defensive end Marcus Davenport. Green Bay traded away the 14th overall selection in the 2018 draft in exchange for the Saints’ 2018 (27th overall) and 2019 (TBD) first-round picks.

The Packers could easily give up a 2019 first-rounder, be it their own or the Saints’ pick. Besides, the probability of any  future first-round pick panning out and having the career of Patrick Peterson is highly unlikely. Peterson is a known commodity who would immediately improve the Packers defense.

Green Bay has shown an ineptitude for selecting first-rounders in recent years — albeit with Ted Thompson at the helm — and acquiring Peterson would ensure security for a number of years at the cornerback position while also giving the Packers room for another 2019 first-round selection.

With a host of other picks set for the upcoming 2019 draft, it’s time for general manager Brian Gutekunst to really make his mark on this Packers roster by going out and getting his version of Charles Woodson.
