NFL Trade Deadline 2018: 3 deals the Dallas Cowboys should make
By Randy Gurzi
2. Get a new safety
The Dallas Cowboys have been great on the defensive side of the ball this season. That’s incredibly impressive when considering they’re not starting the greatest safeties in the back end of their secondary.
That’s not meant as a knock to Xavier Woods or Jeff Heath, it’s just how the team feels. They spent much of the offseason — and the beginning of the regular season — trying to pry Earl Thomas from the Seattle Seahawks. That never came to fruition so they rolled with Heath and Woods.

Heath has continued to be their best safety, which is amazing considering how bad the former Saginaw Valley State product looked early in his career. As for Woods, he’s got the instincts and tools you like, but was a sixth-round pick in 2017 and has a lot of growing to do.
For Dallas to make a run for the NFC East, they need to improve in this area. A couple names that could be available include Ha Ha Clinton-Dix of the Green Bay Packers and Karl Joseph of the Oakland Raiders. They already made a move with Oakland and may not like the asking price for Joseph.
Clinton-Dix is in need of a new contract in 2019 and believes he could be on the way out. It would be worth seeing what the Packers want in exchange for his services.
