Seattle Seahawks: Tyler Lockett, bold predictions for Week 8 vs. Lions
By Samuel Teets
Matthew Stafford vs. the Seahawks secondary
The Lions quarterback is averaging 267 passing yards per game, which puts him at 18th in the league. He’s also tied for twelfth in passing touchdowns. As for the Seahawks secondary, they’ve been outperforming expectations. The defense has allowed the third least passing yards per game at 206. Seattle’s defense is also tied for sixth in interceptions forced and are tied for the second least passing touchdowns given up.
Stafford has a litany of offensive weapons at his disposal. The team has three solid wide receivers that are all capable play makers so there will be some mismatches during the game on Sunday. It’s inevitable that someone will break loose from the coverage and get open. It’ll just come down to whether Stafford can make the throw or not.
As for the Seahawks defensive backs, they might have some trouble creating turnovers. Stafford has only thrown five interceptions this season but four of those came in the season opener. In every game since Week 1, Stafford has above a quarterback rating of 100 and he’s currently on pace to set his personal record for competition percentage in a season (67.6).
He’ll be a tough matchup for the Seahawks secondary, especially since it is uncertain if either Neiko Thorpe or Tre Flowers will play. If both of them have to sit out on Sunday there will be a lot of added pressure on safeties Bradley McDougald and Tedric Thompson, who is filling in for Earl Thomas. Look for Shaquill Griffin to have his hands full as well.
