T.J. Jones

It looked like T.J. Jones would not receive a restricted free agent tender from the Lions to ensure his return to Detroit last offseason but the team changed their mind just before the tender deadline. It may have been a prudent move at the time to make sure some depth remained in the wide receiver group but Jones has been mostly superfluous this season.

The impressive trio of Golden Tate, Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay have been very good, and very healthy. That has limited opportunities for Jones to contribute and he now looks like a needless luxury. Jones should be commended for his ability to come through when called upon during his Lions tenure but the Lions just haven’t had many opportunities to give him.

Jones was on the inactive list in week eight while Brandon Powell got the call to the active roster for the first time in his career. Jones wasn’t seeing a lot of action when he was active and now he has been left inactive.

It would make more sense to get something in return in a trade if there is a team out there looking for a depth wide receiver who has shown some dependability in limited action in the past.
