The 2018 NFL Trade Deadline is hours away and the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos have a deal to send wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to the Texans

It looks like the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos are going to make on move just ahead of the 2018 NFL Trade Deadline. The Broncos are reportedly sending veteran receiver Demaryius Thomas to the Texans in exchange for a mid-round draft pick.

This is being reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, who says it’s now time for Courtland Sutton to take over in the Mile-High City. Rapoport followed up, saying that Denver will get a fourth-round pick while the two teams will swap seventh-rounders as well in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Rapoport is right that the Denver rookie receiver is ready for a bigger role with the Broncos, which is just part of the reason they’re willing to make this move. The other part of the equation for them is the cap relief they will get by moving on from the former first-round pick.

Thomas, who turns 31 in December, counts as $12 million this season and another $17 million in 2019 (according to OverTheCap.com). That’s an awful lot of money for a player that age.

For the Texans however, this is about something bigger. They’ve overcome a 0-3 start to win five-straight games. They’re now in control of the AFC South but suffered a huge loss when wideout Will Fuller tore his ACL and was sent to the IR for the remainder of this season.

Houston going after Thomas gives them a reliable option across from the talented DeAndre Hopkins as they look to continue to control their division and make a run in the postseason.

Their defense is playing great and quarterback Deshaun Watson is one of the best young gunslingers in the game. This move is all about taking advantage of a season where things are going right for them.

Thomas is due to make a lot of money, but the Texans can afford it and this keeps them in line to walk away with the South title.
