The Ugly Facts

It’s just the latest series of events for an organization that has not been able to get it out of its own way in this the 20th season since being resurrected by the league. Dating back to ‘99, the Cleveland Browns are 90-221-1 during the regular season and 0-1 in their lone playoff appearance – which came way back in 2002. The team’s last winning season came in 2007 when the club finished 10-6 but missed out on the playoffs. Since then, the Browns are 40-127-1.

Ouch!

It’s a franchise that has gone through 30 different starting quarterbacks in 20 seasons. It’s an organization that is now on its 10th head coach over that span. Consider that their rivals from Pittsburgh have employed just three sideline leaders — Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin — since 1969.

The latter took over the Steelers in 2007, four years after Marvin Lewis was hired by the Cincinnati Bengals (2003) and one year before John Harbaugh took over in Baltimore.

Hence, every other head coach in the AFC North has been on the job at least 10 years. At this moment, neither the Steelers, Bengals nor Ravens have a losing record even though each has had its issues this season.
