Oakland’s own pick

There’s a chance that the Oakland Raiders could look to take a quarterback with their own pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. That, of course, depends on what they do with Derek Carr this offseason. Given how things have played out with Mack and Cooper, anything seems possible regarding the quarterback.

However, let’s pretend for a minute that Gruden and Carr come to an understanding and the quarterback stays. After all Carr’s completion percentage (71.7), yards per attempt (7.7) and yards per game (297) are all career highs. The issue is his TD-INT ratio. But that’s to be expected playing for a coach who’s been away from the game for nearly a decade. So, if they ride with Carr, they should instead look to improve their putrid pass defense.

LSU cornerback Andraez “Greedy” Williams is the guy for the Raiders. Gruden is getting rid of guys that aren’t “his guys.” Moreover, many expect the Raiders to part with Gareon Conley at some point in the near future. Therefore, there’s going to be another hole in an already leaky defense.

The Raiders clearly need help in their secondary, and there’s no better corner in the draft than Greedy Williams. In fact, if you compare him with last year’s class of corners, he’d be right up there with Denzel Ward and Jaire Alexander as prospects.

Williams has length and the technique that allows him to jam effectively at the line. He has excellent quickness and the ability to click and close quickly on the ball. Another excellent quality is his ability to mirror receivers. If he’s on the board, the Raiders can’t afford to pass him up, not even for a quarterback.
