Often forgotten about in the debate for the greatest quarterbacks, Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints is in search of his first ever NFL MVP award

This has been a season to remember for New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. After a surprising Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he and his team have been on a roll and they have now rattled off seven victories in a roll.

While the wins have been impressive, what’s really standing out is how well Brees is playing. At 39-years of age, Brees is on top of his game in his 18th NFL season.

After eight games, he has completed 76.3 percent of his passes for 2,336 yards with 18 touchdowns. What’s most impressive though is the ball protection he is displaying. Brees has just one interception and one fumble after eight games, which is an insanely impressive stat.

While others like Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff are lighting up the league, they haven’t been nearly as careful with the ball. Mahomes, for example, already has seven interceptions on the season and Goff has six. On top of that, Brees’ completion percentage is nearly ten percent higher than each of them.

As it stands now, he’s playing MVP-level football, which has him in the mix for his first ever NFL MVP award.

For Brees, it would be wee deserved, as well as overdue. This is a guy who turned a perennially losing franchise into Super Bowl winners and has topped 5,000-yards passing five times in his illustrious career.

He’s just been unfortunate that each time he’s put up an elite season, there has been someone the football world deemed better. This season could be more of the same, especially with the way Mahomes has been tearing up the league.

It could be that the flashy youngster outdoes the savvy veteran, but Brees won’t go down without a fight. He should be an MVP and this season, he is doing all he can to fix that.
